Summer Reading Club Medieval Fair
Oyez! Oyez! Good Lords and Ladies, Louisville Public Library and the Marche of Alderford invite gentlefolk of all ages within hearing to attend a grand Medieval Fair July 16, 2005 from 1:00-4:00 in the afternoon. Come enjoy a day of fun, food, gaming and demonstrations of skill as lords in shining armor fight for the honor of their fair ladies. The Medieval Fair will be the crowning jewel of the library's Summer Reading Club program, "Dragons, Dreams and Daring Deeds." Members of the Marche of Alderford, the local chapter of the Society for Creative Anachronism, will be on hand to help with the merriment, as will the library's Teen Advisory Board. Planned activities include storytelling, a medieval fashion show, games and prizes, face painting, a fantasy art show, the Teen Advisory Board Players, a catapult contest, refreshments and demonstrations of crafts and armored combat.
The Society for Creative Anachronism is a non-profit, educational organization that studies and re-creates aspects of the Middle Ages and Renaissance.
The Marche of Alderford has offered a number of educational programs throughout Stark County and makes an annual appearance in the Constitution Day parade.
For more information, visit Alderford's website at http://alderford.org/ or contact Mrs. Courtney at the library.

Update: The Audio-Visual Returns Box is on Order
"Change for Change," the program to ask our patrons to be our financial partners as our budget experiences cuts in state funding, will soon show its first success: the installation of an outdoor returns box for audio-visual items. The A-V Returns Drop Box will be sited close to the current library book drop. Patrons will then be able to return ALL library materials after normal library hours.
We sincerely thank each and every person who dropped coins and bills into the "Change for Change" bucket at the Circulation Desk.
From the Director...

Now that spring might actually be here, the staff of Louisville Public Library is starting on a cleanup and sprucing up program. Part of our roof has been replaced, and the other part has been repaired.A new ceiling will soon be put in the adult collection area and new carpet in the reading lounge. We are very grateful for the volunteers who are patiently continuing to wash books in the mornings. They can always use some help.
The administration of the Louisville City Schools has generously offered the library a room in the former middle school to store the donated and discarded books that will be sold by the Friends of the Library in July.
We have some exciting plans for Summer Reading Club. All ages can participate. Please make the library part of your summer activity plan.

"Alcohol-Fueled Dragster" Program
Presented by Kyle Michalek
Monday, June 13, 6:30 p.m.
Kyle Michalek, 20, a graduate of Louisville High School and a student at Ohio University, will be showing his alcohol-fueled dragster in the library parking lot on June 13, 2005 at 6:30 p.m.
Kyle spends his summer free time in the ever-growing sport of drag racing. He is the driver of "Heavy Metal Warrior 2" alcohol dragster and travels across the country on the pit crew of 5-time IHRA Pro Funny Car champion Mark Thomas. Kyle's dragster accelerates from 0-160 miles per hour in approximately 8.6 seconds using its 650 horsepower engine.
Kyle will be holding a question and answer session, signing autographs, and showing footage of the "Heavy Metal Warrior 2" in action. If time permits, Klye will start up the car and let everyone hear the power that runs his dragster.
Note: In case of rain, the program will be adapted as an indoor presentation.
