Lest We Forget: Louisville Remembers WWII

As a tribute to those who experienced the Second World War, Louisville Public Library will conduct a special program on Veteran's Day, November 11, 2006, from 9:30 am until 12:00 pm. In the words of writer-broadcaster Tom Brokaw, these were the men and women who became "The Greatest Generation."

The following is a summary of a few highlights of this free program:

  • Despite his youth, Joe Huber became a Civilian Prisoner of War of the Japanese when he and his family were interred for 31 months during the Japanese occupation of the Philippines.
  • Local business Bob Bonfert will discuss his father's experiences as a B-24 crewman during the War in the South Pacific. He will also show a 15-minute video of actual footage taken by his father, 1st Lt. Verner Bonfert, including some actual, brief conbat footage in My Father's Experiences in the Pacific Theater of WWII.
