The Sensory Space is located at the Discovery Center at 504 East Main Street in downtown Louisville.

This unique space was created with the needs of those with sensory processing disorders, autism, dementia, and learning disabilities in mind, but is a space where absolutely EVERYONE is welcome.  The room features equipment and toys centered around engaging the senses and utilizes fiber optic colors, interactive sounds, and a variety of tactile experiences.  When it opened in August of 2018, ours was the only publicly-available, free-to-use complete sensory room in the United States. The sensory space includes lots of equipment for folks with a number of neurological issues.

Other libraries have sensory corners or walls free to use, and full sensory rooms can be used in some schools and doctors' offices if you're a member, and there are even some pay-to-use facilities available, but the Louisville Public Library's facility is the only one that is free, a complete room, and open to the public.

We offer free activities in the Sensory Space for all ages and abilities. The Sensory Space is available free to use to anyone with a free Louisville Library card. This facility was paid for by a $50,000 grant from the Institute for Museum and Library Services, administered by the State Library of Ohio.

You must have a Louisville Library Card to use the Sensory Space.Seniors do chair yoga with Miss Tracey in the Sensory Space.

Socks are required in the Sensory Space year-round.
